Kathy Griffin was born in Chicago. She is the youngest of five children, with three brothers and a sister. According to her brothers, she was always trying to make others laugh, even circulating among guests at parties and telling jokes. When her parents retired and moved to California, shortly after Kathy finished high school, she decided to move with them and try to break into show business. Kathy, unlike many comedians who move to Los Angeles would soon find fame working in the local comedy clubs. Kathy got her comedy career off the ground when she joined the Los Angeles Groundlings improvisation group, where she performed for over seven years. From her work at local Los Angeles comedy clubs, Kathy was chosen to be given a guest appearance on Mad About You, and a recurring role as Jerry Seinfelds girlfriend, Sally Weaver on Seinfeld. It was after these roles that HBO gave her her own half hour comedy special. The response was so great, that in 1998, HBO gave her a one-hour special entitled A Hot Cup Of Talk. In the early 90s, Kathy Griffin went on to lend her voice to the animated series The Simpsons and Dilbert. Kathy went on to have guest appearances on over fifty different television series, including The Drew Carey Show, Ellen, Caroline In The City, The Tonight Show, and Whose Line Is It Anyway?.
